Blog Review: July 13

Cadence’s Tom Anderson looks at real-world examples of assertions gone awry, like the bumper sticker “Be American—Buy American” on the back of a Toyota truck, or the CitiFinancial sign: “In order to serve you better this branch has been closed…”

Synopsys’ Alex Seibulescu looks at the mad focus on plans for just about everything, from vacations to dinners to verification. But what about Plan B?

Mentor’s Colin Walls slams the coding example given by a speaker talking about porting code from 8-bit CPUs to 32-bit devices. Given the billions of lines of sloppy code that have contributed heavily to energy inefficiency, this shouldn’t be much of a shock.

Cadence’s Richard Goering interviews Samsung’s Ana Hunter about 20nm and all the details such as double patterning, strain engineering and the transition to gate last. The tradeoffs between power and performance are particularly interesting. Goering’s other interview, this one on video, involves Cisco’s structured approach to engineering change orders.
